Explore The Estate
Events, experiences and opportunities to engage with the estate.
Events at The Big Wood Estate
Throughout the year we host a small number of events that invite visitors to experience the estate in different ways. From guided walks and wildlife mornings to seasonal gatherings and performances in the landscape, these events offer an opportunity to spend time on the land and learn more about the work taking place here.
Upcoming events are shown alongside. Places are limited, so advance booking is recommended.
Walking the Footpaths
Public footpaths cross The Big Wood Estate, allowing visitors to experience parts of this evolving landscape. As you follow these routes you may notice signs of wildlife living alongside the trails — from roe deer moving quietly along woodland edges to snipe lifting from the wetlands, and hedgehogs sheltering in the hedgerows.
To help protect the wildlife that calls this place home, we kindly ask that all dogs are kept on a lead while walking across the estate. Many species nest or shelter close to the ground, and keeping dogs nearby helps ensure these fragile habitats remain undisturbed.
Some of the wildlife found here is recognised on the IUCN Red List of threatened species, highlighting the importance of protecting habitats where these animals can live and breed safely. By keeping to the paths and keeping dogs on leads, visitors help ensure this landscape continues to support the wildlife that depends on it.
Access & Visitor Information
Parking
There is currently no dedicated visitor parking for the public footpaths. Access is primarily via the surrounding public rights of way, with limited roadside lay-bys available nearby. If visiting, please park considerately and avoid blocking gates, farm entrances, or narrow rural lanes used by local residents and agricultural vehicles.
Event Parking
Parking is available on the estate for organised events and pre-booked activities only, with directions provided at the time of booking.
Ground Conditions
The estate sits on heavy clay soils, which means the footpaths can become very muddy during wet periods. Sturdy footwear or wellington boots are recommended, particularly in autumn and winter.
Facilities
Composting toilets are available for visitors attending organised events.
Accessibility
Due to the natural terrain and rural infrastructure of the estate, paths and facilities are not currently wheelchair accessible. Improving accessibility is something we hope to work towards in the future.
Spaces on the Estate
The Big Wood Estate includes a number of unique outdoor and indoor spaces that may be suitable for small gatherings, workshops, and private events.
From terraces overlooking the landscape to quieter corners of the estate and our on-site classroom, these spaces offer the chance to spend time in a setting shaped by nature and restoration.
If you are interested in hosting a workshop, gathering, or small event at the estate, we would be happy to hear from you.
