Corporate Days

Corporate Social Responsibility Days

Our primary CSR programme operates during tree planting season — October to March.

Tree planting is most successful during the dormant months. By working within this window, we ensure strong establishment rates, lower mortality, and genuine long-term habitat gain. Seasonal discipline protects both ecological integrity and the value of your organisation’s contribution.

We therefore focus planting activity within this period, aligning impact with ecological best practice.

What Your Team Contributes To

CSR days at The Big Wood Estate are built around pre-planned land projects within an actively managed regenerative landscape. Your team contributes to work that forms part of a long-term ecological strategy, rather than one-off activity.

Projects may include native woodland creation, hedgerow establishment, woodland expansion corridors, shelterbelts, wetland edge reinforcement planting, and early-stage tree protection and aftercare.

All planting is species-appropriate, ecologically designed, mapped, and incorporated into ongoing management plans. The result is landscape infrastructure that will continue to mature and provide habitat for decades.

What the Day Looks Like

The day begins with a welcome briefing and introduction to the wider estate vision. We provide ecological context for the work being undertaken, followed by a health and safety overview and demonstration of correct planting technique.

Teams then work in structured groups under supervision to ensure planting is carried out effectively and safely. A break for lunch allows time to reset before continuing the session. The day closes with a summary of the work completed and how it integrates into the estate’s longer-term plans.

We maintain appropriate supervisor-to-group ratios throughout to ensure good practice, plant survival, and efficient delivery. This is purposeful land work carried out with care.

Why Seasonality Matters

We work in step with the rhythms of the landscape. Restricting planting to the dormant season significantly increases establishment success and reduces the need for replacement. It ensures that your organisation’s involvement contributes to meaningful habitat creation rather than short-term activity.

For companies reporting on sustainability or ESG commitments, this seasonal approach provides confidence that the work undertaken is responsible, measurable, and aligned with ecological best practice.

Make an Impact This Season

If your organisation is considering a Corporate Social Responsibility day during the October–March planting season, we would welcome a conversation. We will discuss group size, project scope, and how your team’s contribution can integrate into the estate’s long-term ecological strategy.

Each winter, a select number of organisations work alongside us to establish woodland, hedgerows and habitat infrastructure that will shape this landscape for decades. We are pleased to recognise those companies below who have already contributed to that work — and we look forward to welcoming others who wish to do the same.

Additional Opportunities

Our core CSR programme centres on winter planting between October and March.

From time to time, we may publish additional, project-specific opportunities outside of planting season. These are made available only where they align with the estate’s current ecological priorities and operational capacity.

When such opportunities arise, they will be listed below.
