About the Event
As daylight fades and night begins to settle over the estate, join us for an evening bat walk to discover the hidden world that emerges after dark. Bats are among our most fascinating native mammals, and dusk is the perfect time to observe their agile flight and feeding behaviour. Guided across woodland edges, wetlands, and open fields, we’ll explore how these remarkable creatures navigate and hunt in near darkness, gaining a new appreciation for the life that thrives beyond daylight hours.
What To Expect
We will begin with a short introduction to the bat species found locally and how we can detect their presence. As dusk deepens, we’ll set out on a gentle walk across the estate, pausing at key habitats where bat activity is most likely. Using bat detectors, we’ll listen for echolocation calls and observe flight patterns as the evening unfolds. The walk concludes once darkness has fully settled and activity begins to quieten.
Before You Arrive
This outdoor event takes place at dusk and continues into darkness. Please wear sturdy footwear suitable for uneven ground and dress warmly, as temperatures can drop in the evening. A small torch is recommended for navigating paths at the end of the walk, though we encourage minimal light use to avoid disturbing wildlife. This event involves gentle walking and periods of standing still.
